Enhancing fundraising capabilities for nonprofits

blog-enhancing-fundraising-capabilities-for-nonprofits

When it comes to social media platforms, Facebook still casts a relatively long shadow over its little cousins Instagram and Twitter. Look at it this way: of the roughly 7 billion people in the world, 1.5 billion of us login to Facebook daily. In comparison, Instagram and Twitter are hovering around 400 million each. So, when you’re thinking about who’s on Facebook, with 1.5 billion users worldwide, that’s about 21 percent of our population with a profile photo and a status update; and for every fundraising campaign and nonprofit organization, that’s 21 percent of our population who could potentially interact with your page. At 21 percent, that means one person in five are on Facebook. The question is “Who doesn’t have a Facebook account?”

Charities and nonprofits everywhere have harnessed the power of promoting a noble cause through Facebook. And Facebook has responded in kind by converting their platform from simply promoting and increasing awareness and recognition of a cause or campaign, to actually creating a nonprofit-friendly avenue to actively receive donations from those who care about your noble cause.

Click to Donate: GiveModo makes it easier to give back

Yes, we’re all more than familiar with Facebook, as we’ve logged in, posted, and checked our newsfeed before that second cup of coffee in the morning. And yes, you’ve probably already utilized Facebook’s fundraising capabilities for nonprofits to some extent already. If not, why? And now, with GiveModo they’ve taken it a step further.

As the ultimate user-friendly and nonprofit platform, Facebook has partnered with GiveModo to enhance its Donate button to allow people to donate to their favorite cause, charity or nonprofit, without navigating away from the page. And while the GiveModo Facebook partnership is all about convenience for the user and donor, there’s also a cost benefit in play. Of all the various sites, apps and services out there that charge a fee to coordinate a donation, GiveModo is easily the lowest in cost at 4.9 percent + PayPal fee. So, once you’ve signed up with GiveModo, and they’ve generated a URL for you, and you’ve set your page’s category to Non-Profit Organization, you’re three steps away from a user and donor-friendly platform.

Just three easy steps

  1. Step 1: Click on “Add a Button,” or, if your page already has a call-to-action button in place, then click on “Edit call to Action.”

  2. Step 2: Next, navigate to the “Shop with You or Make a Donation,” category and select Donate.

  3. Step 3: Enter your GiveModo URL in the website field.

Once this is done, and you’ve refreshed your Facebook page, you’ll see a large Donate button right smack in the center of your fundraising nonprofit page. Estimated total elapsed time to set everything up so the donation process is streamlined for your donors: 20 minutes.

Of course, Facebook doesn’t stop with just a convenient donation button. Facebook also features fundraisers, a dedicated place to raise funds from a nonprofit’s Page for a specific campaign.

Here, nonprofits can host a near-full operation by…

  • Telling their campaign story,

  • Rallying supporters,

  • Collecting donations, while visibly tracking progress toward a specific goal. So that semi-annual blood drive, that neighborhood park rebuild, or that book and classroom supply campaign for a local school in need, can all have a voice and platform that reaches more people than ever before!
