I went around the world in 21 days. Seriously, 21 days and with no checked luggage, just a carry on. The most important thing was to stay connected. Yes, you may ask, “Why not disconnect?” Well, for one, I’m an entrepreneur trying to grow my businesses. I have to stay connected.

I remember my first stop was Dublin and I only had two days there. It frustrated me that I had to go into several databases to get the information that I needed. Then I had to send a request to one of my team members to consolidate the information into one report. By the time my plane landed in Brussels, Belgium my report was ready, but with data that was already five days olds. Why can’t I have real-time insights into both my financials and operations? So frustrating!

Mid-market space

Back in the early 2000's, I met with some Microsoft folks in Redmond, Washington and one of the topics of discussion was the untapped middle market. The space between lower end applications like QuickBooks and higher end applications like Microsoft Dynamics GP. Businesses out growing QuickBooks were forced to either stay with QuickBooks and/or add-on multiple software vendors (ISVs) to patch up their growing needs, or graduate to a higher end solution that maybe too big or too expensive.

Then in early 2012, I sold my company First Tech Direct to Columbus Global. First Tech Direct was a leading Microsoft Dynamics GP, AX & CRM reseller. As an entrepreneur, you start to think of your next big thing to do. I remember my 30 second elevator speech about First Tech Direct and stating that my company uses Microsoft CRM (aka Dynamics 365 CE) as our bible. We lived and breathed by this solution.
