Goodbye entry level accounting software
When it’s time to say goodbye
Is your company's growth causing your small to medium sized business (SMB) to lose the efficiency battle? If so, then it’s time to take a closer look for new business financials. If you’re experiencing more headaches and glitches with your current entry level accounting system, it might be time to write that letter. If you’re not sure what to type or how to say goodbye to the software that no longer gets the job done, feel free to copy and paste this one. Then click Send.
Dear QuickBooks,
We’ve been through so much together, haven’t we? From our first batch of month end reports, weekly updates, and the quarterlies! As tough as things got, we always managed to get through it. That’s right: we dug deep, crunched those numbers and ultimately, posted and reconciled. Good times (mostly).
Oh, and remember our first update? We had to bring in our local IT guru to sort through the mess, and we were down for the rest of that afternoon. But still, with all that downtime, we survived.
I remember when we first launched and opened the doors to the world. Sure, we were nervous, but eventually, with a lot of spreadsheets and overtime, we even turned a profit (in the third quarter, of our fourth year).
I know. Things weren’t always all sunshine and rainbows. There was that quarter back in ’09 when you were a bit (extremely) upset because that huge server in the storage closet won our company’s M.V.C. (Most Valuable Component) Award. You were so upset that you just froze and shut down. Though you never really admitted it, Server got under your spreadsheet. But look at Server now: he’s a relic in our IT Museum. And you’ve managed to stay on all these years. That says a lot.
I think we’ve made it this far because I know exactly what to expect from you, and because you haven’t changed. You’re great at certain operational functions; and you keep things simple so there’s no need for change. After all, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Right?
But here’s the thing: I have changed. My business is growing, and it’s growing faster than I could have anticipated, and faster than you’re able to keep up. If you’re wondering what I’m writing about, here’s a short list:
My growing business needs a(n):
-
Unlimited number of users.
-
Sophisticated multi-location, departments or profit center reporting.
-
To track transactions to events, projects or other dimensions.
-
Better security and true audit trails.
-
To integrate to external systems.
-
To implement your own workflow around transactions.
-
Integrated CRM to automate sales & marketing.
-
Better internal controls.
And let’s be honest, you can’t provide what I need
It’s not you. It’s me.
Gravity Software: The next step accounting solution for growing SMBs
No, really. When we started out together, you were always there. Sharp. Reliable, most of the time. Those reports were timely (as long as we didn’t need to make any major adjustments), and even accurate (usually). We were even able to format them the way I wanted and needed (after a day of tinkering on my part).
I’m the one who changed.
My business has grown, from a single office to multiple locations. From 5 employees to 50. I need my data like yesterday, and with you, I have to jump through hoops and sometimes wait for days.
QuickBooks, I don’t want to fight, or point cursors at each other. Let’s just unplug and step away from the hard drive.
You’re going to be fine.
There are plenty of small businesses who are just starting out. You’d be great with them! You can help them get their feet wet and they can rely on you for basic functions and operations. You’ll see.
Sincerely,
Growing S.M.B.
